Sandra loves picture books

Fotos-Paxixil-041-682x1024
Dear Russell,

Sandra is three years old and regularly visits the library that PAVA built in Paxixil, a village in the highlands of Guatemala. She loves to hear others tell stories and then to look at the pictures and remember what she heard. She is so happy to have this space and all the activities because she has lots of fun. She is also grateful for your donation, Russell, since she has no books at home.

Our mobile library, the Biblioteco (Biblioteca + tecolote, or owl), provides library services to villages that have no access to books. Our aim is to promote the love of discovery through reading. At present, we are working in three communities and plan to open two more this year.

To enhance the work of the Biblioteco we at PAVA encourage communities to set up a communal library. First, they designate a physical space where it will operate, and second, they organize a Library Committee to operate it. The Library Committees are comprised of volunteers who are trained in how to manage the library.

Thank you again for your support, Russell!
