Alan is learning to read

Dear Joseph,

Seven year old Alan is in first grade and is learning to read. The small library that PAVA built in his highland Guatemala community give him the opportunity to read books his parents cannot afford. He is very grateful for your donation, Joseph.

Our mobile library, the Biblioteco (Biblioteca + tecolote, or owl), provides library services to villages that do not have access to books. Our aim at PAVA is to promote the love of discovery through reading. At present, we are working in three communities and plan to open two more this year.

To enhance the work of the Biblioteco, we encourage communities to set up a communal library (as in the case of this village). First, they designate a physical space where it will operate, and second, they organize a Library Committee to operate it. The Library Committees are comprised of volunteers who are trained in how to manage the library.

Thank you again for your support, Joseph!
